Artemis II Crew Returns to Earth After Lunar Flyby

The crew of the Artemis II manned mission has successfully completed its flight and returned to Earth following a lunar flyby, the Orion spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego, the landing occurred at 8:07 PM ET (03:07 MSK) using a parachute system, the return was broadcast live on official NASA platforms, following the splashdown the spacecraft was recovered by rescue teams, additional technical inspections are expected before the mission is officially concluded and the capsule is hoisted aboard the transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha, the crew consisted of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency representative Jeremy Hansen, the mission launched on April 1 as part of the Artemis program which aims to return humans to the Moon, during the flight the spacecraft performed a lunar flyby coming within approximately 8,000 kilometers of the Moons surface, the primary objective of the mission was to test the spacecrafts systems and equipment for future deep-space missions including the planned manned lunar landing in 2028.
